Methodology & Sources

Belonging Index: Composite of Ownership (WID wealth/income distribution, World Bank Gini), Agency (ILO union density, CB coverage, labour share), and Community Resilience (WVS trust, IDEA voter turnout). v0.1 — 9 indicators, equal-weighted within dimensions. US ranks 17th of 20.

Shock Absorption: Fiscal headroom measured by debt-to-GDP (IMF/WB, inverted), current account balance (WB), reserve currency status (tiered), and central bank independence (Garriga CBI proxy). Equal-weighted, 0–100 scale.

Quadrants: Median split. Upper-right = Resilient (high belonging + high fiscal headroom). Lower-left = Structurally Fragile. Upper-left = Stable But Hollow. Lower-right = Fragile Stability.

Coverage: 20 countries in v0.1. Expansion to 40+ countries planned for v0.2.
